ALABAMA TEA PARTY EXPRESS

CHIP BROWN PATRIOT

May 21, 2010

By Rino Hunter

A position with the Public Service Commission may not have been taken very seriously by voters in the past, but it is an extremely important position due to the mandates being handed down by the federal government to all states, including Alabama. The Cap and Trade legislation may be “dead” by that name, but it has been revived by those in Washington, D.C. who feel they have the right under the U.S. Constitution to tell us how our houses are to be equipped, what type of fuel we will be required to use, and where our energy sources will come from. No matter that in the Southeastern United States solar and wind derived energy is not a viable alternative. What those who hold the office of Public Service Commissioner will be faced with is, as Chip Brown says, “…facing the Tsunami that is coming on the energy front and be willing to stand up to the federal government.”

“My role in the Public Service Commission is also an economic development role in order to keep utility costs low in order to protect consumers; both individual and small business consumers.”

Conservative Chip Brown’s stance on issues couldn’t be farther apart from Susan Parker, who currently holds that office. He is conservative, believes in free-market solutions to problems and also believes that the states have not only the right but the obligation to see to their citizen’s needs in most areas of enterprise.

He says his father has inspired him throughout his life and led by example. “My Dad was Mayor of Daphne, Alabama for three years. He had previously run for City Council and his primary concern was improving the park facilities. Sucessful in achieving that goal, my father ran for Mayor and won. Now, after retirement, my father is coaching Little League Baseball.”

Chip Brown is well-grounded and having served his country with his military service, he intends to use the discipline, team-building and organizational skills he utilitized while serving in that capacity in order to serve our state. “I am running for the Public Service Commission because it is time we gave the Public Service Commission back to the people of Alabama.” “During these tough economic times, the people of Alabama need a fiscally conservative Commissioner that will look at every decision and ask themselves what impact this will have on average Alabamians.”

“We need a Public Service Commissioner that isn’t afraid to fight against legislation that will have a negative impact on energy or telecommunications cost for the people of Alabama whether it be in Congress or the Alabama Legislature. ” “We must have a back to basics approach to the Public Service Commission and take a fresh look at everything from how Commission funds are being spent to looking at the ever enlarging size of the Commission staff.” Brown is hoping to capture the GOP spot for Alabama Public Service Commissioner Place 2 in the June 1, 2010 Primary.

Chip Brown, 41, is a graduate of Fairhope High School and Troy University. He has served as Chairman of the Baldwin County Republican Party and State Chairman of the Make A Wish Foundation of Alabama. Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Chip enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard and served on active duty with United States Central Command’s Forward Headquarters in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following an honorable discharge, Chip continued his service to our nation as an Operation Enduring Freedom Military Contract Advisor to US Forces Afghanistan at the International Security Assistance Force Headquarters in Kabul , Afghanistan. Chip is a Commercial Real Estate Broker based in Mobile. He is a native of Baldwin County but currently lives in Mobile with his wife Aimee and their son Harry.
