PSC Issues

The PSC Belongs to the People of Alabama - I will open the books of the Alabama Public Service Commission for a top to bottom review of finances, hiring practices etc. In this tough economic climate when average Alabamian’s are being forced to cut back and make difficult economic choices we should expect our state government to do the same. For too long the Public Service Commission has operated as if it were above reproach. While businesses in Alabama have been cutting back the Public Service Commission has operated with bloated staffs and the ever present air of secrecy. My door will always be open; the office of Public Service Commissioner will not be my office it is owned by the people of the great state of Alabama. My books will always be open for review and I will approach every decision with the idea of not what is best for me politically but what is the right decision for the majority of the people of Alabama. It is time we shook up the political good old boy culture in Montgomery and brought government back to the people. I would like to move the Public Service Commission meetings to areas around the state, so the every Alabamian can have their voices heard.

Utility Rates - In this difficult economy people across Alabama are hurting and the Public Service Commission must make decisions that take into consideration the financial viability of utilities along with the overall economic condition of the average Alabamian. The Public Service Commission is owned by the people of Alabama and should never be treated as anything that could be construed as the arm of any utility in our state. I will stand firm against any unnecessary rate increase!

Economic Development - As a member of the Public Service Commission I will work hard not only on utility issues that come before the Public Service Commission. I will work with economic recruiters to help bring good clean industries to Alabama. Utility rates are a vital part of the overall operating cost of any business and I will work to keep these low to keep Alabama competitive in the ever changing global economy. An important aspect of this will be fighting against any legislation on the federal or state level that will result in higher utility rates for the people of Alabama and Alabama businesses.
